Canon EOS 1000D Review / Comparison

The Canon EOS 1000D is a 10.1 megapixel digital single lens reflex camera.  Known also as the EOS Rebel XS (USA/Canada) the camera was released during June 2008 by the popular camera manufacturer Canon as an entry level Digital SLR (DSLR) to offer a budget alternative to the very popular 450D model. It was also a chance for Canon to react to competitors releasing a number of low specification / de-speced cameras onto the market to undercut the 450D.

Whilst being a budget alternative to the 450D the 1000D still shares features with it’s bigger more expensive brother.  Offering such features as Live preview, Digital Imaging Core (DIGI) SD and SDHC memory storage.  Visit our specification page for a full breakdown of features.

Have a look at the video review for a more hands on look at the camera.

The Canon 1000D is essentially a 400D with the odd feature here and there removed, in replace a newer processor is used which results in a camera that produces good quality and reliable images.

The Canon does what it needs to do and what it needs to do it does well.  Overall it’s a great Digital SLR and perfect for beginners wishes to take the first step into the DSLR world.  The features removed do not have any real negative impact and many will not notice any difference unless they are at an advanced level of knowledge and experience.  The only real impact with the reduction in features is the continous shooting feature where the speed has been reduced to 3.0fps, if you often shoot continuous small bursts of images yo may wish to look elsewhere.

Overall the 1000D does well and is a safe bet with a well known brand name attached.  It’s a consistent budget level / entry model which offers all round performance and with market leading image quality in comaprison to it’s competition it should be towards the top if not at the top of your list.

As you probably know, Canon makes a very wide range of Canon digital cameras, in addition to the Canon EOS D1000. If your needs are different, but you still want a camera with the durability and value that is associated with the Canon brand, then you might want to check out Discount Canon Digital Cameras, where they have a color digital picture gallery showing a wide range of Canon digital camera models.
